Mexican Cuisine
If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.

When you get a burrito bowl they fold the tortilla in half and then put it in... Who does that? That means you cant wrap it into a little burrito later because the tortilla is all soggy and gross. It may seem petty for me to only give them 2 stars but it completely threw off my burrito bowl.

I love Chipotle, but lately this particular establishment has fallen far from the standard most restaurants in this chain hold themselves to. I believe management has told the staff to give very little servings of each ingredient. Today I received a burrito bowl that wasn't very filling at all, and that was after I complained about the amount of chicken I was receiving. If I'm going to spend $7 on a burrito bowl, I'm going to expect the portion to keep me full at least a couple hours after I eat. If any members of management are reading this review I highly suggest you start allowing the employees to give reasonable servings if you want business to start picking up again. Maybe next time I'll go next door to Primantis, spend a couple extra dollars, and actually receive my money's worth.

Crowded location but I guess this is what you would want if you have a restaurant. Food wise...average chain/fast food Mexican style. It won't blow your mind and it won't offer you something unique or an authentic experience. But what do you expect with a place like this. The place is well kept.

The only I thing different with this chipotle from all others is that I believe they are instructed to give you less than most chipotles

This place doesn't have to make an effort due to huge student population. I have enjoyed other locations, but the food quality at this spot is poor. Salsa often almost frozen in temp. My guess is that they recycle a lot of previous day's food. Some have complained portions are smaller at this location. Count your blessings. I can't wait for Moe's to open.

This Chipotle is just as good as all the others. High quality, great service and (usually) clean. Had the steak bowl with toppings. I did ask for "a little" bit of beans and rice and ended up getting a lot. I wonder how much I would have received had I not asked for less. Other than the long lines sometimes, no complaints at all.

I came to this Chipotle while on a 5 1/2 hour drive after leaving my grandmothers. I live in California and read some reviews on this Chipotle when I was looking for chipotles on my route. I noticed in the reviews that they are skimpy on the meat and corn and that the burrito is extremely small for Chipotle. They were right. My server was very friendly, and apologized after I told him there was a big hole in the tortilla and I was driving. But after then they gave me a small amount of meat, at the end of the batch there were just a few pieces of steak left and he left it there even though the amount he gave me was small. They gave me a decent amount of rice and lacked with the corn. I was surprised just how small the other reviewer meant when they said it was small. The burrito ended out being about the same amount as a 4 layer burrito at Taco Bell. Someone also commented that the mild or medium salsa was way hotter than it should be. I got the mild because I don't like spicy food all of the time and it was more like medium. It usually takes me about 10-15 minutes to eat these burritos and I'm extremely full at the end. But when I ate this locations burrito I was done in literally five minutes. I noticed that the same song was on when I was done and it was 5:27 long. I was still hungry, and I'm a really skinny guy. I'm 6' 1" and only 150 so you can see I can't eat much, but I was actually disappointed when I realized I was already done. 2 stars for the burrito compared to other locations, and 4 stars for the service, (only because I had to point out the hole). I work inside Disneyland at Ghirardelli (which is not Disney owned) but we sell sundaes from 9-35 dollars. Whenever I make a sundae I make sure they get their money's worth because if you pay 9 dollars for a sundae and get 3 dollars worth how ripped off would you feel? I felt like I only received a 3 dollar burrito instead of the 7 dollars that I spent.

I'm a really big fan of Chipotle but somehow this one didn't taste as good as the other ones I have tried.

The Pros: Decent burritos and excellent quality meat with generous portions. The meat preparation and flavor is very good! My favorite is the Brabacoa (shredded beef simmered in adobo sauce and spices to give it a smokey flavor), which I prefer over the chicken and steak. The pork carnitas is pretty good too. The food is expensive, but you do get your money worth for the portion size. It's fine for take-out. Quick service and you get to see your food being prepared down the line. Also you can ask for freebies such as "double-wrapped" to get two shells for one burrito. You can ask for more of each ingredient if desired, so that's also a big plus. The Cons: You can get as much of the ingredients you want that are included with your menu item, but chips, salsa, and other toppings/sides (ie: guacamole) are extra. That's right, no free extras here. That's the biggest disappointment. If you ask for something unusual or something to be included on the side in a separate container, they get a confused look on their face as if you're breaking their rhythm. Salsa selection is very poor. The mild salsa tastes like nothing, while the medium salsa is sometimes too hot to taste any flavor. I haven't tried the hot salsa because of this. The lime rice with cilantro is also pathetically weak in the flavor department. As for dinning environment in the State College location, this place is both loud and unappetizing. During Penn State semesters this place is crawling with students, talking loudly to their friends, on their phones, etc., etc. Not family friendly when the semester is in full swing. And unfortunately the industrial look of the dinning area only makes the noise issue worse. Note that lines can get a little long in the middle of the lunch hour during the Penn State semesters. Honestly, I've really enjoyed Chipotle shops when I was living in California. But here in State College (my home town), it's sub-par at best. Because I have so many cons for this place, I gave it two stars. If you've never tried Chipotle before, then it's certainly worth a shot, but don't expect miracles here.

Love it. Eat it every week. Staff is mostly students.

Having been raised on the West Coast and therefore having gone on vacation down the coast every summer to Cali and mexico ever since I could remember, I've been thoroughly disappointed with "mexican food" in PA. And although this chipotle is no exception, I guess I will rate this Chipotle high given that 1) all the other food places in state college is crap 2)The lines go quick, and it's much healthier than other fast food 3) Very filling and for the price (can usually have enough left overs for 2-3 meals) 4) Although not very authentic tasting, still tastes good. I've been to a couple of other chipotle in Philadelphia, but this one in state college always seems to have the freshest ingredients and doesn't cheap out on toppings.
(4)Caroline S.
Yes, I love Chipotle. But this Chipotle is a different story. Even when it's not busy it feels like they are rushing you through the line, not listening to what you are saying. AND the worst part, the portions are SMALL (never thought I'd say that about a Chipotle). If you are vegetarian, you will be disappointed. They are hesitant to give you more beans or veggies, even though you are not getting meat. So, you end up with a burrito bowl with an inch empty space on each side - inconceivable! Right? Well, not until you've been to this Chipotle. (Also, the guy in front of me had a chicken burrito and I actually thought to myself - that looks small...Yes, Chipotle's huge burritos are gluttonous and monstrous, but they're supposed to be. It just doesn't feel right seeing a little tiny burrito there - but maybe that's why people are skinnier in State College)

Chipotle is salvating us from having to eat from Taco Bell. Before, I didn't really like mexican food, due to Taco Bell.. Then I tried Qdoba and it failed to impress me. I tried Wild Cactus on the HUB before, but it was pretty much Taco Bell in Qdoba size... Combining those 2 aspects didn't really do the trick either. But I was so glad when Chipotle made its way to this little in-the-middle-of-nowhere desperate town. First I was skeptical but my friends asked me to try it so I did. Sometimes during the rush hour in lunch time, I got to wait for a while, but it was not a long wait, because the staffs were efficient and fast with their serving. When I finally got served, I could see that the ingredients were freshly made that morning and I chose Fajita Burrito with Carnitas (I always have Fajita Burrito now, and I have tried all toppings, they are all good). I had cheese, sour cream, hot salsa added on it. I paid a pretty decent price for a burrito this size that I could see was fulfilling. I sat down and enjoyed my burrito. Wow... It was fresh, juicy, and tasted really good... Not as authentic as the restaurant near Mexico border I had in San Diego before, but this should do the trick. I tried to order the taco and it was also good. What I liked was how they made everything fresh, a big plus aspect, made everything beautiful. The service was fast, the restaurant was clean, and the food was good. An excellent overall experience here. 4/5, why? Because Chipotle is good, but not special enough for me to give that rare 5 stars :p
(4)Jimmy K.
Just your typical Chipotle, except for the fact that this one always seems to have a line. In my opinion, it's a little overrated by the students. Many seem to think of it as the "second-coming". But, it is still a very filling, tasty meal, that isn't too too expensive.

Chipotle is one of very few chains that I actually enjoy. Two things stand out about this location: 1. Since it's the only location in State College, it's fairly busy, so the food turnover is quick. Meaning, everything is fresher! 2. The employees are SO friendly! They are always smiling and actually treat you like a human being. Also, they know what "mix it up" means (you'd be surprised, but this is far from common). Not only that, but they know HOW to mix it up correctly (using lids, not forks, is optimal). I'm a big fan of consistency and I give the management major props because they obviously know how to hire the right people and train them effectively to keep that consistency going. Not an easy task. The food? It's a Chipotle. Everyone has their tried-and-true Chipotle order. Here's mine: Steak burrito, tiny bit of white rice, no beans, fajita veggies, mild salsa, corn, sour cream, cheese, and more sour cream. Sometimes a side of sour cream (can you tell I love sour cream?). And most importantly, MIX IT UP. You gotta mix it up.
(4)Jarrod C.
This was a great Chipotle and very clean. I preordered on my iPhone and had burritos with names on them when i showed up. One of the best experiences i've had.
(5)Mary Y.
I'm not a huge Burrito fan but the Burrito bowls are really yummy. I love the Baranca(?) beef. (Shredded beef) with rice, pinto beans, corn, lettuce, hot salsa, cheese & guacamole. I wish they didn't charge for chips/salsa. There are always lines almost to the door but service here is really fast.
(4)Rob P.
Overall, the food here was good. My only critique is the queue to order. There doesn't seem to be a good place for the queue as it snakes through the dining room when busy. It's kind of awkward waiting right next to people eating and vice versa.
(4)Sam B.
Still the best of its class in my opinion. A barbacoa burrito boal is top notch and comparable if not better than even the local Mexican cuisine. Not bad for a corporation that had its orgins in the McDonald's corp.
(4)J D.
Went to Chipotle on a busy Wednesday afternoon during school hours. I commend the staff for getting people in and out so quickly. We were in line almost to the bathroom and we were served with the quickness. By the time we were seated, there was a line out the door. For as many people as there were in the establishment, the mood was upbeat and people seemed to be at ease in what could have been a hectic environment. Even though I prefer Qdoba, I am giving them four stars due to their service.
(4)Rodney S.
If you've been to a different chipotle, this place will disappoint you. Just moved here from CA, and I can't believe how terrible this Chipotle was. The portions were terribly small, the chicken was dry, and the place was a thousand times louder than any other Chipotle I've been to. I never imagined rating any Chipotle this low!
(2)Art A.
A typical chipotle but the line's longer. Not sure if this is happening nation-wide, but they've really skimped on the portion size. I do respect how they source their ingredients- it's the only reason I come here instead of Baja Fresh across the parking lot. Oh and no beer is served here because this is the wonderfully wacky state of Pennsylvania.
(3)Chris M.
Alright, so Chipotle is nothing new for anymore who has tried it before. It has fresh ingredients, friendly people and quick service. The location here at PSU means that for lunch or dinner, there is usually a loooooonnnggg line. The nice thing is that this location gets the line moving fast. I have never had a bad experience at this location, so I recommend it if your looking for a good, fresh tasting burrito. 4 stars for great food 1 star for the awesome service
(5)Kyle F.
Food is hot and awesome, they accept Lion's Cash. You get a lot more food here that fills you up and is a lot healthier than fast food (*cough*...McDonalds). Never been disappointed with this place. Can't miss it, right next to G-Man.
(4)Sa K.
My favorite place in the world to go for Tex-Mex food when I'm in a rush. You have a different selection of protein and veggies. You can eat a bowl or burritos and also quesadillas. My favorite is the bowl with chicken and meat, lettuce, tomatoes, guacamole (1 dollar aditional), cheese, sour cream, and corn.
(4)Liberty P.
Expected more like Baja Fresh at Dupont Circle in Washington. More cilantro and genuine different sort of salsa. Too much stuff in the tortilla. Subjective point of view after all.
(3)Joe M.
Inexpensive, filling and great food served by friendly employees in a very clean place. Great combo for a college town.
(5)H T.
I'm so glad that Chipotle has made its way to State College. I now have a place to satisfy my Mexican food craving, besides going to Taco Bell or Qdoba (which don't even match up to Chipotle). It's also conveniently located next to a lot, but since it is in downtown State College, parking's a bit of a pain.
(5)G.U. E.
Food is fresh. Portion is decent. The tables often are dirty. Usually take the food to go.
(3)Richard W.
Even though lines can be long at times, the employees are always nice. The resturant is usually clean and the food is great as usual.
(4)Steve W.
I love Chipotle and they get you in and out quickly.

Ever since the Cinema 5 closed downtown, I've been conflicted. On the one hand, I lost tons of good memories of my early college days watching movies. But seeing the old theater replaced with a restaurant is a nice change. Chipotle is one of the more recent Mexican food chains making its way around the Ohio/PA area. Simply put, they make extremely filling burritos at a fair price. There was a decent sized line at the place, about a five minute wait before we could order. I grabbed a steak bowl with pinto beans, corn salsa, and a side of chips with it. All things considered, Chipolte burritos are naturally spicy which sent my friend into a soda drinking spree. The meat tasted fresh and overall the burrito felt filling. The chips on the other hand are hit or miss between our group. I loved the chips, they mixed a lime and very salty flavor. Either way, Chipolte is a nice way to fill up for about $10 a head.

I have been a fan of Chipotle since the franchize first opened a few years ago. When they opened one right downtown across from Penn State's campus it was a fine addition to the restaurants scene downtown. if you have never been to Chipotle, it is a conveyor belt of options that you can fill a burrito, burrito bowl or salwad bowl with. the options have all the finxings of a traditional mexican restaurant with meats ranging from chicken to barbacoa (pulled pork). The servings are filling, but if it is not enough you can add the option of chips with salsa or guacamole. They also have fruit drinks, fountain drinks and water. Chipotle is amazing, but until you have experienced its greatness for yourself, you have no idea what an amazing experience this can be! Customer service is great and this particular chipotle is quick and efficient and they also take onlne orders. Don't wait! Go there as soon as you can!
(5)A G.
It baffles me how disappointed I was with this Chipotle. If you are from this part of Pennsylvania...I can understand how you might think this is good food, having a Qdoba for comparison, but if you've ever eaten at another Chipotle, you'll know what I mean. Again, I don't mean to be racist, but this Chipotle is operated by a bunch of white college kids. The portions are very small and just doesn't taste right. Smothering it with hot sauce did not distract me from the odd tasting steak. The location is great, right next to a couple of bars, with large glass windows to check out the local college ladies returning to their dorms from Frat Row. Overall, extremely disappointing...never thought I would say it but...two stars for a Chipotle...take the time and walk down the street to Qdoba.

I get it-- everyone knows chipotle is amazing. But you have not experienced how amazing amazing can be if you have not had their medium green salsa. This is how I had the best burrito ever-- chicken, both black and pinto beans, tomato salsa, medium salsa, corn salsa. That's it! Lettuce and cheese on the side resulting in very minimal sprinkle/ mix- in. And for the added midas touch, I squirted some fresh lime juice on for effect. OMMFG. WOW. Plus, their customer service is top notch.
(5)Chris G.
Love this chipotle. I have special orders and they fill them so fast it's awesome.
(5)Sean O.
Even when the line is out the door, I doubt I've waited for more than 8 mins, ever. The burritos are out of this world good, it's a reasonable price and the service is quick.
(5)Eric F.
Back home in Cupertino, CA., Our chipotle put a lot more in the burritos than these guys do. Don't get me wrong, they were super nice and chipotle is always to die for, but I did have to ask for extra rice. Otherwise the atmosphere seemed very clean and organized. Would go back for more. It's chipotle. Who wouldn't.
(4)T W.
I figured long lines would correlate with good food, but I was sadly mistaken. The burrito was filled with subpar food, and fell apart quickly. I would recommend the nearby American/Mex restaurants, like Qdoba, California Tortilla, or even Taco Bell.
(1)S D.
This location is soooo crowded; ALWAYS. There is always a line out the door and to top it off ... its the ONLY location in State College. Honestly not the best tasting Chipotle I had. The meats are never well done and poorly season. I usually just order to pick up to avoid the masses that are always there.
